What's new in Brew MP
Brew® has grown up to become a full OS with a ton of new functionality that allows you to deliver killer new UIs, applications and services. We’ve added new features and APIs across the entire platform while never losing focus on delivering the biggest punch in the smallest footprint. And our new Brew SDK, tools and developer site help you get your applications to the market faster. Say hello to the new Brew Mobile Platform - or MP for short.
NEW QUALCOMM MOBILE OS FEATURES
To say we have been busy adding new stuff is a bit of an understatement. From greater control over power for mobile applications, to new core features like processes, threads, signals and critical sections, to enhanced services like memory and file management, we’ve touched every part of this mobile OS. We then completely overhauled and optimized database services for complex queries and the ability to register for change, while also adding new content management and URI-based settings engines. And to make it all look good, there’s new widgets, transitions and powerful window management to deliver complex multi-window applications and UIs.
HERE FOR THE LONG HAUL
We don’t just give you tools, pat you on the head and tell you to go away. Brew MP’s new test tools and support systems help you get your Brew applications to market. From a standardized test plan, to more accurate XML-based device profiles, you’re always starting right. We even re-tooled device testing with new APIs, updated reference right to the SDK and multiple test houses with centrally updated specs. And when you’re ready to verify functionality, there’s an Open Porting Verification Suite with thousands of automated test cases.
MULTI-PLATFORM MOBILE SDK
Say goodbye to the days of sorting out which SDK is needed for which device. With multiple platforms and one mobile SDK, simply use our new SDK Manager to install and activate the platform of your choice. For help managing all those devices, there’s a new Target Manager that chooses a simulated or physical device to test against and then automatically configures your environment. Our simulator has also been revamped to include support for interactive, Flash-based skins, local device instantiations and extensive mobile platform build. Click2Run and Click2Debug provide automated, one-click compile, install and run or debug, instantly. And then there’s Universal BMP USB, which finally provides a universal driver bundled in for seamless connection to all Brew MP devices without OEM drivers.
EXTENSIBILITY
Brew MP puts you in control to add cool new APIs. Now you can quickly add new APIs and services in one language and expose them across different languages using our new interface definition language support (IDL). All of these new mobile APIs become an equal part of the Brew MP OS and we can even help you distribute and advertise your OS extensions from the developer website.
